Elk Hunting Chronicles - Part 3

October 9, 2022

An extremely slow and uneventful day.

This morning we rode east and up to this tree'd plateau. Super rocky trail, seems to be the norm around here lol it froze over night and the willows sparkled in the sunlight! It was truly magical!

We rode by the biggest natural spring I think I’ve ever seen! It had it’s own little waterfall that flowed into the main river!!

An easier day for the horses! They sure needed a break after yesterday!

We didn't see a dang thing! (Elk wise) just a shitload of annoying squirrels. Boy oh boy, it was a pretty hot day again today.

We did see a grizzly bear, a fuzz butt I named Barnaby, off in the distance that I was trying to film with Luke’s phone because these iPhone 13 pro’s won’t focus in a spotting scope lens. As much as I love the 3 lenses on this phone, they are also a pain… should have bought a phone scope! (They allow to to take good-ish quality pictures with your phone through your spotting scope!)

We saw a ton of sheep. 34 I think.. all ewe’s and lambs!

I had an afternoon snooze which was glorious! Mountain side/top naps are honestly the best! Usually short and sweet! We checked out a few wallows! Most were dried up but the one you definitely wouldn't want to ride a horse through… super boggy!! I was almost falling through the grass/moss!

We eventually headed back to camp.

Another guide Kyle and his wrangler Jesse were at base camp when we got back. They were headed to the staging area in the morning. Had a good visit.

Full moon was out in full force tonight, not helping out the hunting end of things. For fuck sakes. Maybe I shouldn't have turned down that first bull the night we got here.
